About
For the last couple of years I have enjoyed writing "Yappy Talk", a bi-monthly column for the local East Dallas weekly newspaper, "The White Rock Lake Weekly." Each article features one of my recent foster / rescue animals and focuses on animal welfare issues with the purpose of raising awareness of the many current pet issues affecting our city and our nation. My goal is to keep folks informed of these issues and to share ideas through my website blog through communication with animal advocates all across the United States - and beyond.
This summer I compiled these columns into my first book - "All My Fosters are Rockstars" which was just released March 2011. All proceeds from the sale of the book will go to The SPCA of Texas or other local animal shelters.
I hope that you will enjoy reading about my many rescues and fosters - each with his / her own story and each one who is a Rock Star in his / her own way! Please help me spread the word, continue to save more lives and make a difference!
Each book is a minimum donation of $25.00 - which will go directly to the SPCA. Checks made to the SPCA can be mailed directly to me at Mary Spencer 6943 Wildgrove Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75214. Please let me know through this web site if you would like to order a book, how you wish to pay for it and I will ship your book (s) asap.
Thanks so much for you support for the animals. I hope that my book makes you laugh and also realize how much our four-legged friends need us in our lives - just as we need them. Please help me give them a second chance!
Hugs to the Animals
Mary Spencer

“All My Fosters Are Rockstars” is out! Yes, my very first published book which includes thirty of my favorite Yappy Talk columns has finally hit the streets! This book was a goal that I announced last summer before I left for my North Carolina sabbatical. When I made the announcement, I optimistically believed that editing my columns for the book and self-publishing it myself via the internet during my trip would be something I could accomplish over those two months.
I had fantasy visions of returning home in September to find cartons of my self-published books waiting on my doorstep!
After considerable editing and re-writing each column, I first discovered that each one needed even more revisions. Actually that realization was made after my first three edits. When I mentioned this, friends often remarked that writing is a lot like producing that masterpiece oil painting – every time the artist looks at it, he or she would find another reason to make a slight change with the brush.
So, I returned home without a book and facing more edits but filled with ideas in my mind for my very own first book. So, I worked diligently last Fall rewriting and choosing appropriate photographs. Since I had decided not to attempt self-publishing on line, I met Fran Ussery, owner of Ussery Publishing Company, whom I developed a bond with immediately, feeling confident that she would professionally direct me through this publishing process as painlessly as possible. Fran was a true champion in all aspects.
